BRIEF HISTORY

One of the Oldest Church in the Diocese of Kottapuram. This was one of the churches, dedicated to Our Lady in the South India out of three in the ancient days (other twos are Our Lady's Church Vallarpadam and Vailankanni).In 1503 the Portuguese constructed a fort - the First European fort in India - is situated near the Church. In 1577 the church built with the Potuguese Style.

One of the Traditions are, when Tipu Sultan came from Mysore with his armours, destroying the churches and all things made by the Portuguese, reached in Pallippuram. Then the nearby people gathered in the Church and prayed to Mother Mary. Then the place covered with snow - even the season was summer

The annual feast of Our Lady of Snow is celebrating from July 30 to August 5 of every year.

Cemetry Church - built by the Dutch peopleThere are three main substations under this church. St. Rockey's Church at Kovilakathumkadavu, St. Joseph's Church, Manibazar and Japamalarajhni Church at Cherai. The Novena to St. Rockey is attracting thousands of devotees every Monday. This is one of the two churches, which dedicated to St. Rockey in Kerala.

About 38 of priests having in this parish. And two priests raised as bishops - Late Rt. Rev. Dr. Jacob Acharuparambil (Former bishop of Trivandrum) and Most Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel Acharuparambil (Archbishop of Verapoly).
